21st – Century Learning: 3R’s and 7C’s
The term 21st century
skills is generally used to refer to certain core competencies such as
collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking, and problem solving that
advocates believe schools to teach, to help students thrive in today’s world (www.sophia.0rg). In K to 12 Enhance Basic Education it really
needs not only for Senior High School but also in lower grades. I believe that
it should be start in Kindergarten so that they should develop their skills in
learning by doing. An American philosopher John Dewey said a hand’s on approach
to learning must interact with their environment in order to adopt and learn.
We know that children today are active, inquisitive and wanted to explore. (article, August 30, 2019)
Why we have 21st
century learner? Before, in traditional teaching, we focuses on reading, writing
and arithmetic which are the 3R’s. The framework for 21st Century
Learning skills focuses on the 7C’s, according to Trilling. It includes:
critical thinking; creativity and innovation; collaboration; cross-cultural and
understanding; communication, computing technology; and career learning.
3R’s x 7C’s equal 21st
Century skills.
We called this as creating powerful learning experience through integration |
